Hemes Roulis : A Quiet Luxury

The Hermès Roulis is a relatively new member of the Hermès handbag line, first appearing in the Spring/Summer 2011 lineup. As opposed to the legendary Birkin and Kelly handbags, the Roulis has more subtle sophistication, attracting those who prefer "quiet luxury”. Roulis' design is reminiscent of the rolling motion of a vessel, a homage to Hermès' heritage and the metaphor of advancement and innovation. This maritime inspiration is also reflected in its clasp, which was influenced by Hermès' famous Chaîne d'Ancre (anchor chain) bracelet, first designed in 1938. Its streamlined, minimalist aesthetic features a square shape and a front flap closure, akin to that of the Constance bag but less conspicuous "H" clasp. Hermes Evelyn : A Bag Designed to Move With You

The Hermès Evelyne handbag was created in 1978 by Evelyne Bertrand, head of Hermès' riding department. It was originally crafted as a simple and convenient carryall for horse groomers. The Evelyne bag was worn only by the riding department until the early 2000s when it was formally transferred to the leather goods department and went into production for the masses. The iconic perforated "H" signature was intended to face inward, towards the body, as a ventilation system to allow air to circulate to the bag's contents and keep brushes and sponges dry.
