Hermes Evelyn : A Bag Designed to Move With You

The Hermès Evelyne handbag was created in 1978 by Evelyne Bertrand, head of Hermès' riding department. It was originally crafted as a simple and convenient carryall for horse groomers. The Evelyne bag was worn only by the riding department until the early 2000s when it was formally transferred to the leather goods department and went into production for the masses.

The iconic perforated "H" signature was intended to face inward, towards the body, as a ventilation system to allow air to circulate to the bag's contents and keep brushes and sponges dry. The humble and minimalist appeal of the bag, combined with its functionality, soon made it a favorite among Hermès aficionados.

The Evelyne bag has also been redesigned through the years, here are the versions that has been released:

 • Generation I (First Generation) : Has a perforated "H" logo on the front and no external pocket.

Clemence: Originally used for travel bags, Clemence is a dense and heavy leather with a very pronounced grain. It's long-lasting and becomes softer over time, perhaps with a slouchy shape.

Maurice: Introduced in 2017, Maurice is a newer leather similar to Clemence but with a smaller, flatter grain. Slightly stiffer than Clemence but softens over time.

Other Materials

Canvas: The adjustable shoulder strap on the Evelyle bag is made of durable canvas with leather reinforcements that match the outside material of the bag.

Suede: The interior in an authentic Hermès Evelyne is always the rough, sueded underside of the leather. This not only makes the bag more functional but also more attractive.

The materials and leather ensure that the Evelyne bag is just as fashionable as it is functional.
